OSA AED Program

The Oceanside Senior Anglers club has an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) unit that is brought to all club fishing trips & picnics case it is needed.

An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

The club requires that trip charter masters be trained and certified in the use of our AED unit, and they are responsible for having the unit on board. Event chairmen are also responsible for making sure the unit is available at club picnics. The Oceanside Senior Center, where we hold our monthly meetings, also has an AED located in the lobby.

Club members are encouraged to get CPR/AED training, which also includes basic CPR techniques. Every year there is a class that provides an opportunity for new certifications and renewals, this class is conducted by a certified instructor. Spouses are welcome at these training sessions — being a senior club we all can benefit from this training. To provide backup on club fishing trips, anglers are asked to indicate at trip signup time if they have current certification.

The AED program is administered by Marshall Goddard.
